The Return

Midnight Court Rating: 5.0 (1 votes)
Storyline: When their father, known to them only by an old photo, abruptly reappears, two boys must reconcile the image they had of him with the living human being who now confronts them. Parallel to the mental voyage upon which they embark is a journey that takes them into the stunning topography of the Russian far north. As the man takes them further into the unknown, they question his claim that he is their father – and, more importantly, the reasons for his return after such a long interval. While much of post-Soviet cinema deals with various sociological aspects of the society, Zvyagintsev’s film has the stone-hewn quality of myth and touches on universal themes of truth, betrayal and reconciliation through three small lives.
